This book had a superb and eloquent final 50 pages that brought it up to 3.5 stars.

However, I don’t feel like this packed the punch that I was expecting. I feel like Nathaniel’s story was definitely my favorite and most powerful, but the other two stories really dance around and meander and lose their tension.

I really didn’t feel like I HAD to learn more about them until the very end.

The writing was excellent and I loved the flashbacks and alternating points of view, but I’m a dialogue girl and there wasn’t quite enough for me...and I became lost in some pages, searching for the point.

Entertaining. Gorgeous in parts, for sure. Yet, not quite hype-worthy, in my opinion.

I Have Lost My Way GAYLE FORMAN 9781471173721 Books Reviews

The plot was very contrived, and the ending very abrupt.
I love Gayle's books so much and this one was no exception. It is unique and I loved seeing these three lost souls find each other.
To anyone who has lost their way, who has had thoughts they knew were not their own, who has soul-searched and still come up empty, this book is for you. This book reopened old wounds for me, but applied a gentle balm, almost like breaking a bone that never quite healed correctly and resetting it. There is a healing in these stories.
Beautifully and sensitively written story of 3 lost souls, from very different backgrounds, coming together accidentally to make each other whole.
The narration was excellent and authentic, performed by 3 different people.
The protagonists were well developed and the narrative kept my interest as it built towards the climax of events which happened during the course of one day.
I started out reading this on my , then bought the Audible version and enjoyed it more.
This book may be classified as YA, but it has a general appeal to any human being.
And it has a pretty song at the end.
I can see this being made into a good movie!
I would definitely read more from this author.
Gayle Forman is my top author. The writing is so sleek and enthralling. Everytime i pick up her books, i cant put them down until i finish it. They're true page turners
The character development makes me feel emotionally connected and like im living in the book. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into each character and their backgrounds. I truly liked how you know where they come from ethnically. Not many authors put in culuture and ethnicity into books. That helps make this book different than the others. It kind of opened my eyes that even in times of sadness, there are people who are right alongside you that you may not know theyre going through it too. Gayle Forman is one of my favorite authors because of this!!
I was interested in this book because of the location. I thought the cover art was beautiful and I thought that the author was amazing, so I thought, why not give this book a try? I have many different opinions on this book. First up, you should know that this is a book where you start knowing little about the characters and end up knowing the full story. This also has an open ending, meaning you assume/decide. This is a book where loads doesn't happen, but there is an emotional punch and things to think about. There really isn't a strong storyline, but I'd consider this a light read because you can read this and get an idea of the story, but I found the storyline sort of weak. I loved the idea of the three of them finding new lives and fresh starts and beginnings; and the book in a way was like poetry, very descriptive. I did enjoy this novel, and when I was reading, it was hard to put down, because of the writing style and the descriptive words. Overall, would I recommend this book? Yes, if you know that this book is meant for beauty; not for action and drama. Plus, this book has some paragraphs that could change your perspective on being lost. I have mixed feelings on this one. A little bit of wandering around and wasting time, but Gayle's writing style makes up for it.
Freya, Harun and Nathaniel meet in the oddest way. One of them falls off the Central Park bridge, landing on the other two. The timing couldn’t be odder for these characters. They’re all going through life struggles that had left them searching for the meaning of life. Freya is a rising pop star when she loses her voice, Nathaniel has lost his father, and Harun has lost the love of his life. They come together during this moment of loneliness and despair. Will they comfort one another, or will it help them find their own individual place in this world?

The writing is beautiful. Rich, lyrical, full of meaning. This is my first Gayle Forman read (never read If I Stay), and I’m impressed with her style. You get detailed backstory from all of these characters — their family backgrounds, their views on love, and overcoming the expectations from strict religious parents — which makes you root for them all the more. There is romantic tension between two of the characters, but that doesn’t derail you from their individual storylines. The downside? The pacing is a little off. I wanted to skip ahead because nothing was happening for a while, especially toward the middle. There is little dialogue here, which is frustrating for me. I like to hear the characters’ voices, so to speak, and how they interact with one another. I like a novel that’s rich with narrative and dialogue, without one overpowering the other. There are other dangling particles in the story, but I won’t go into them, for I don’t want to spoil it for the reader. I Have Lost My Way is still several steps above most YA novels these days, and I give it four out of five Peppermint Mocha lattes.
