Whale of a Crime The Gray Whale Inn Mysteries Book 7 edition by Karen MacInerney Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I like this series, I like this author. However, reading the series from book 1 to book 7 ahead of the release of book 8, raises some issues. The heroine, Natalie is likable in a stand-alone but she keeps repeating the same errors over & over. This is the second book of the seven that there is a subplot of someone else opening a competing inn. Both times, the competition plug a drain in a sink (or bathtub) and flood the room. Both times, Natalie worries about will insurance pay? I don't know what she's running, but most hotels/ inns will make the guest pay for damage. If it happened once & you hadn't covered yourself with an agreement, fine. Twice? You are an idiot & should not be running a business. How many times do guests have the ability to come and go in her kitchen? Why wouldn't you put a lock on that door? In previous books it was the skeleton key to rooms, you've had a murder, don't leave the skeleton key where anyone can access it! Maybe leave it in the kitchen which hopefully includes a lock too since it accesses your bedroom! Same for her running off alone because she's figured out who committed a crime. For goodness sake, your husband is a deputy, show some trust!

That said, these are a nice read. I just wouldn't read them all in a row because it becomes annoying.

Whale of a Crime The Gray Whale Inn Mysteries Book 7 edition by Karen MacInerney Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

In "Whale of a Crime" the Gray Whale Inn books a whale-watching group in the inn. There is some friction between the captain of the whale-watching ship and the first mate. Shortly thereafter, the captain is found dead, his body tied to the anchor hoist. The reader later finds out that the captain had previously visited Cranberry Island under different, and bad, circumstances. This mystery has several divergent clues which gives it a neat level of complexity one does not expect in a "cozy mystery." Once the clues start coming together, the surprises just keep on coming. This is one of the best books in this series.
I really enjoy this series. I don't know why, but I love books, movies and TV shows that are set on islands. I want to move to an island someday, although I probably will never actually do that!

Anyway, I liked this book a lot. The main character, Natalie, owns an inn on an island off the coast of Maine, and let's just say trouble always seems to find her, usually in the form of ... MURDER! *Bwaa ha ha, evil laugh.* This is the 7th book in the series and has plenty of adventure, mystery and suspense. Plus there are cats, and I love cats. And recipes!
Whale of a Crime, Volune 7 in the Grey Whale series is a MUST READ! Taking me back to Cranberry Island with Natalie at the Inn, made me feel the coziness and beauty of the island. The tour group that visited there was headed for murder, mayhem and excitement! This book was a page turner. I wanted to savor every word on each page, yet could not stop reading until the mystery was solved! My favorite author for sure! Looking forward to Volume 8!!
I've read all the Grey Whale Inn series and this one is one of the best. The story line moved quickly and I found it hard to stop and go to sleep! The end of the chapter always ended in a way that made it impossible not to read the next chapter to see how things went. There were several different storylines going on but it was not difficult to keep them all clear. I would have liked to go with Natalie on the Summer Winds and watch the whales!
Another great book in the Gray Whale Inn series. Could be read as a stand alone, but the series has a lot to offer with interesting characters and storylines and a remarkable location too. Do yourself a favor and read them all. I made a batch of cookies from the Gray Whale cookbook to enjoy while reading so I must mention the recipes - yum. Real recipes for real people. I
can't wait to try the recipes from this book as I have made and enjoyed recipes from all the books in the series. This is perfect for anyone who appreciates a smart cozy mystery.
I've read MacInerney's previous Gray Whale Inn books and have enjoyed them. They are light, easy reading, ideal for traveling! The characters are somewhat predictable but the stories will hold your interest. The problem I had with this latest book is the large number of typos and other grammatical errors. (Who edits these???) For instance, in some cases a character is talking about a male, but later in the paragraph "he" is referred to as "she". In other cases, a wrong word entirely is used, ie "had" when the word should have been "and". Small errors like these interrupt the reader's thought process and can be annoying.
It's a fun, easy cozy mystery set in idyllic Maine. the problem is that it is too predictable and formulaic. However, I read the entire series, one after the other, so I may be judging a little harshly. There are many inconsistencies from book to book and unfortunately, the story becomes the same story from the previous book. someone gets killed, Natalie is going to find out who did it, Natalie annoys a lot of people asking a lot of questions, Natalie finally figures it out and confronts the killer and almost gets killed, but doesn't and then she's the hero. Like I said, fun and easy read, just a little to familiar after a while.
